Welcome to Addressed! This tutorial will walk you through everything you need to know to start fixing incomplete shipping addresses and reducing delivery errors.

Time required: 5-10 minutes for initial setup

What you'll learn: How to install the app, configure settings, request address corrections, and manage customer responses.

📦 Installation

1 Install Addressed from the Shopify App Store

Visit the Shopify App Store and search for "Addressed" or click the install link from our listing page.

  1. Click "Add app"
  2. Review the permissions requested (orders, customers)
  3. Click "Install app" to authorize
Note: Addressed needs access to order and customer data to detect incomplete addresses and send correction requests.
2 Complete the OAuth Authorization

You'll be redirected to Shopify's authorization page. Click "Install" to grant Addressed access to your store.

After authorization, you'll be redirected to the Addressed dashboard.

3 Choose Your Plan

Select a plan that fits your needs:

  • Basic Plan ($5.99/month or $60/year): Up to 5 address requests per month, manual email sending, basic templates, email support. Includes 2-day free trial.
  • Pro Plan ($16/month or $168/year): Unlimited requests, automatic detection & sending, custom email branding with logo, order tagging, Slack/Webhook integration, priority support
Tip: Start with the Basic plan's 2-day free trial to test the app. You can upgrade anytime from your dashboard.

⚙️ Configuration

4 Customize Email Settings

Click the Settings button in the top right of your dashboard to configure how emails are sent to customers.

Email Configuration Options:

  • Subject Line: Customize the email subject (e.g., "Action needed: Update your shipping address")
  • Sender Name: Set who the email appears from (e.g., your store name)
  • Reply-To Email: Where customer replies should go (defaults to your store's contact email)
Tip: Use a friendly sender name like "Your Store Name Support" to increase email open rates.
5 Configure Auto-Detection (Pro Plan)

If you're on the Pro plan, you can enable automatic detection of incomplete addresses:

  • Missing City: Flag orders with no city specified
  • Missing State/Province: Flag orders with no state/province
  • Missing ZIP/Postal Code: Flag orders with no ZIP code
  • Incomplete Address: Flag orders that appear generally incomplete

When auto-detection is enabled, Addressed will automatically identify problematic orders and list them on your dashboard.

6 Set Up Order Tags

Configure how Addressed tags your orders for easy tracking:

  • Request Tag: Tag applied when you send a correction request (default: "address-fix-requested")
  • Completed Tag: Tag applied when customer submits correction (default: "address-fix-completed")
  • Auto-Remove Request Tag: Automatically remove the request tag when completed
Note: Order tags help you filter and track which orders are awaiting corrections in your Shopify admin.

✉️ Requesting Address Corrections

7 Find an Order with an Incomplete Address

There are two ways to identify orders that need address corrections:

  1. From your Dashboard: Auto-detected incomplete addresses appear automatically (Pro plan)
  2. Manual Review: Review orders in Shopify admin and identify incomplete addresses yourself
8 Send a Correction Request

To request an address correction, you can use either method:

Method 1: From Shopify Admin (Recommended)

  1. Open the order in Shopify admin
  2. Click the three dots (⋯) in the top right
  3. Select "Ask Customer to Fix Address"
  4. Enter the customer's email address
  5. Optionally add a personal message
  6. Click "Send Request"

Method 2: From Addressed Dashboard

  1. Go to your Addressed dashboard
  2. Find the order in the list
  3. Click "Resend Email" if needed
Success! The customer will receive an email with a secure link to update their address.

📨 Customer Experience

9 What the Customer Receives

When you send a correction request, the customer receives a professional email containing:

  • Your store name and branding
  • Order number for reference
  • Your optional personal message
  • A secure link to the correction form (expires in 7 days)
  • Clear instructions on what to do
10 Customer Completes the Form

The customer clicks the secure link and sees a simple form with:

  • Pre-filled information (order number, current address if available)
  • Address fields to complete: Address Line 1, City, State, ZIP, Country
  • Optional phone number field
  • Submit button
Note: No login required! The secure token in the link provides one-time access to the form.

✅ Automatic Order Updates

11 Shopify Order Updates Automatically

When the customer submits their corrected address:

  1. Addressed immediately updates the order in Shopify
  2. The shipping address is replaced with the corrected information
  3. Order tags are updated (removes "requested", adds "completed")
  4. You can see the update in your Shopify admin instantly
Success! No manual work needed - the order is ready to ship with the correct address.
12 Track Corrections in Your Dashboard

Monitor all address correction requests from your Addressed dashboard:

  • Total Requests: See how many corrections you've requested
  • Pending: Requests awaiting customer response
  • Completed: Successfully corrected addresses
  • Success Rate: Percentage of customers who respond

Each request shows: order number, customer email, status, date sent, and completion date.

💡 Best Practices

13 Tips for Success

Send requests quickly: Contact customers about incomplete addresses as soon as possible after they place their order.

Add a personal message: A friendly note like "Hi! We noticed your address is missing some details. Could you help us make sure your order gets to you?" increases response rates.

Monitor your dashboard: Check pending requests regularly and resend emails if customers haven't responded after a few days.

Use order tags: Filter orders in Shopify by "address-fix-requested" to see which orders are awaiting corrections before fulfilling.

Enable auto-detection (Pro): Save time by letting Addressed automatically flag incomplete addresses instead of reviewing manually.

Pro Tip: Most customers respond within 24 hours. If you don't hear back after 3 days, consider calling them directly.

❓ Troubleshooting

14 Common Issues

Problem: Customer didn't receive the email

  • Check that the email address is correct
